Few things bring me as much joy as Tom Scharpling, Jon Wurster and The Best Show on WFMU.
One of my all-time favs, although it's probably the silliest thing they've ever done so make sure you're strapped in and have your helmet on: Big Bill & Little Bill posted by unsupervised at 11:25 AM on February 2, 2011
Big Bill/Little Bill is absolutely brilliant. Wurster is under appreciated as a comic. posted by Ike_Arumba at 12:05 PM on February 2, 2011
Cool. I just discovered the Best Show Gems podcast a few days ago. I almost never remember to listen to it on Tuesdays, and I'm unlikely to download and listen to a three-hour archived show, so this is perfect.
The most recent one (Matthew Tompkins is Back on the Shout! Network) is very funny. posted by roll truck roll at 12:14 PM on February 2, 2011
I was listening to the latest Best Show Gym when I saw this posted. & unsupervised is right, Big Bill and Little Bill (and Mr. Sherbet) is a great place to start.
I know that this podcast was designed to get people listening, but I really don't think you can get a sense of the show without logging at least 21 or so hours of the actual show. At 3 hours a pop, it's no small commitment, but always worth it. Perfect marathon training playlist.
The thing they've been doing lately involving a little mouse in a cape running by consistently cracks me up. posted by activitystory at 12:25 PM on February 2, 2011

Indeed.
If you want to you can thank the guy who edits the Gems over on Twitter: @Degrell. Martin is a super guy. posted by paddysat at 12:36 PM on February 2, 2011
I'll say it before and say it again, WFMU is just awesome all around. posted by wheelieman at 12:38 PM on February 2, 2011
I somehow doubt this post will attract people who don't already know about The Best Show. But I'd just like to say that Metafilter introduced me to The Best Show, and I now listen to it religiously. I actually let out a whimper when I found out Tom was off this week and there wouldn't be three hours of mirth, music and mayhem to listen to.
The gems are a great way for people who missed the first several years of the show to catch up, and hear the development of the Scharpling/Wurster dynamic.
Sorry, posted from a bookmark that no longer seems to be working. posted by billyfleetwood at 1:19 PM on February 2, 2011
I've worked out to this podcast before and nearly hurt myself laughing. Lesson learned: never work out. posted by nutate at 5:48 PM on February 2, 2011
Oh also the John Hodgman and Tom drinking 4loko episode is hilarious (not yet a gem). posted by nutate at 5:49 PM on February 2, 2011
