Carson Daly signs record deal. The VJ is getting his own record label in a deal with Sony. "I get so many tapes from great musicians," said Daly at the MTV Video Music Awards. "I usually give them away to friends, and then they become huge." Yeah, just what the music industry needs, the Daly Recording Corp.

I like Carson Daly. He was great in Josie and the Pussiecats.

I'm scared this label will put out music I enjoy and buy. My indie cred will drop dramatically.

just because he's the host of TRL doesn't mean he loves the music they play... i think i remember him in an interview talking about how he had to change his whole image on mtv.. he said something like, "no more dead kennedy t-shirts"

If Carson Daly is a Dead Kennedys fan, I'm Kurt Loder.

Carson diggin' DK?That's a funny picture.

I doubt they care about Daly's tastes anyway, it's his access to the teen demo that makes them think he can pick acts for a label.

noisemartyr: Do you really think a band that you would like would send their demo to the host of TRL?

Oddly enough, before his MTV gig, Daly was a DJ for an alternative station in San Francisco and then for KROQ in LA. I'm pretty sure he knows who the Dead Kennedy's are. It just makes him more of a sellout.

The larger question is, how is it that a scuttly little trilobite like Daly gets anything besides multiple daily beatings? Is there NO justice in this world?

in regards to what eyeballkid said: i read an article in Spin magazine and also heard a popular band comment on his "wildman drinking" ways and that during the mtv summer house he was sloshed pretty often and one day they had to carry him off the set. i think the word they used for him was lush. i also know that he is friends w/the group smash mouth and grew up w/them or lived in the same area and played guitar or something or other in that band. isn't he taking over the late late slot from craig kilborn? i hate that arrogant asshole craig kilborn. where is craig going if carson is taking over? i thought i heard kilborn talking about it when he was recently a guest on the letterman show but i tuned it at the end of the interview and changed the channel after being annoyed 30 seconds into the kilborn interview.

Daly is taking over the "Later" show in January which airs after Conan on most NBC stations.

For me to poop on!

Sorry, couldn't resist....

Um, pardon my ignorance, but other than being the host of TRL (which I already know Is Bad), why does everyone hate this guy? Or is this just guilt by association?

"Hi, I'm Carson Daly and I'm totally average in everyway." Maybe he is smarter than we are? Maybe we should all work for MTV, Urban Outfitters, and Starbucks...Man, that sounds expensive...

Maybe that dead look in his eyes reflects his own guilt from selling out.

When I think of the word 'Tool' my mind instantly jumps to Carson Daly.
