There needs to be a single word for ardent butterfly lover. Butterphile? Lepidopterapturist? posted by twoleftfeet at 5:33 PM on February 7, 2011
The quotation marks around "ardent butterfly lover" had me expecting something along the lines of thousands of pictures of the same man frolicking naked with swarms of butterflies. I'm glad that wasn't the case.
Butterphile conjures something... rather different.
Apparently somebody extremely afraid of butterflies (like my wife, who would hate that Flickr so much) is a lepidopterophobe, so why not lepidopterophile? posted by kmz at 6:41 PM on February 7, 2011
Isaac Kehimkar's entire Flickr photostream is devoted to butterflies, because he's an "ardent butterfly lover".
This sentence is killing me.
Me: Why do you eat a lot of ice cream?
Ardent Ice Cream Lover: Because I am an ardent ice cream lover.
Me: Oh?
At the least, credit where credit's due. He's not a shabby photographer. posted by Bathtub Bobsled at 8:09 PM on February 7, 2011
These pictures are fun to look at and imagine what creature the butterfly is trying to resemble. Quite a cool collection. posted by milestogo at 8:16 PM on February 7, 2011
or I should say, what type of creature the butterfly is trying to resemble. posted by milestogo at 8:16 PM on February 7, 2011
Now that you mention it, butterflies do look a lot like little bats. Little bats flying near my head, flapping their little bat wings. Damn you, butterflies. posted by twoleftfeet at 10:46 PM on February 7, 2011 [1 favorite]
That's how he describes himself on his profile page, so I went with it. posted by bwg at 11:36 PM on February 7, 2011
Isn't "ardent [whatever] lover" redundant? (Surely the unrealizable ideal Nabokov joke includes the Ada/ardor pun as well.) posted by aught at 5:31 AM on February 8, 2011
I like this, because I'm an ardent lover of ardent lovers of things. A phileophile, if you will. posted by rusty at 10:00 AM on February 8, 2011 [1 favorite]
