US National Domestic Violence Hotline PSA: "It Rarely Stops" (SLYT. Caution: Some may find the video disturbing. Via.)

This post was deleted for the following reason: Domestic violence is awful and this is an arresting and disturbing spot, but neither of those really seems to add up to a metafilter post. I'm sure the intent was good but I'm not sure why this is here with this presentation. -- cortex

I'm sorry. How is this SLYT a good post for Metafilter?

not bad cover of Mercy Street. But I'm with dunkadunc - what am I to do with this?

We could debate domestic violence. Personally, I'm against it.

Recognize & bear witness to injustice, then work to stop it.

Wow, that was actually somewhat moving. PSAs seem to be getting better produced and more graphic.

Once a long time ago my then-boyfriend & I were watching Mary Poppins which was being rerun on some station somewhat after the family hour iirc. At a commecial break, an anti-domestic violence spot came on. It was (maybe memory fails) I think a shot of a content-looking couple in their bedroom but sounds of violence and abuse - slaps, yelled threats etc. - are audible to them through their ostensibly thin apartment wall. They look uncomfortable and indecisive. I believe the ad was encouraging people to report domestic violence. It stuck with me so I guess it was an effective piece, but maybe just because it was juxtaposed with magic sidewalk pictures and penguin waiters. Disturbing.

Powerful stuff. It really captures the denial victims feel even when they are looking at the evidence on their bodies. The terrified glance off camera at the very end was especially poignant.

Been married for more than 50 years and have never been able to comprehend the idea of physical or mental abuse of one's sweetie. When she aggravates me I wrestle her to the floor and kiss her ass til she begs me to stop and apologizes.
