One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich - Full Movie

One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich Part 1 of 10 (youtube full movie), Ivan Denisovich is one of my favourite books and the 1970 movie is very faithful to the source.

The picture quality is OK once you get past the first minute or so.

It's been uploaded from VHS after being taped from UK TV. Not taped by me, but I saw a brief channel4 logo.

I assume it's in copyright, but I'm not sure it's ever been released on DVD and even the VHS tape was difficult to get back when VHS tapes were being sold new.

Thanks for this- I had no idea there even was a movie! Along the The Stranger, this book defined my worldview during my late adolescence.

I included the "Walking to Work" scene in my list of favourite movie musical set-pieces. Swell music by Arne Nordheim.

Laserdisk copies are up on Ebay, but unfortunately it looks like there's no DVD version.

I came across this interesting review of the film in Life (June 25, 1971).

I'd never seen it, remembered when it was released, and thought 'nah, no way can they do the book justice.' Now I can find out! Thank you selton.

My high school library had this, and I was always checking it out. Probably the only novel I read over 10 times.

Wow. Thanks.

Too bad about the opening sequence, as that was the thing which stuck with me the most after seeing this movie in a theater. The sheer enormity of space made when the tiny glowing dot of the camp's lights finally emerged from the sheer black emptiness that is Siberia setb the stage realy well. The impact of that scene on a 20' screen couldn't be duplicated by our monitors these days , anyway; but that always struck me as the one the most evocative shots ever.
