I remember, after my initial hesitation regarding some of the interviewees, this book to be quite insightful. It has a similar premise, but with subjects that veer toward the mainstream.
It's funny how hard the creative process can be to point down. The phrase "think in sideways" always worked for me. posted by shiggins at 5:30 PM on March 2, 2011 [2 favorites]
I did an e-mail interview with John Darnielle from the Mountain Goats and he said that he didn't wait for inspiration. He 'chased it down an alleyway and stole it's lunch money'. Would love to see him or Craig Finn on this site.
Reading the Brian Fallon interview gave me more respect for him as a songwriter. I know that I LOVE his songs and can't live without them but they're much less consciously 'literary' or wordy than some of the other bands I mentioned. posted by Lovecraft In Brooklyn at 5:34 PM on March 2, 2011 [1 favorite]
