Pakistan faces strategic decision

Pakistan faces strategic decision Pakistan has assumed a lot of importance once again, ironicaly, when the US of A needs its help. The geographic nature of the country along with love hate relationship with Bin Laden, and Taleban, also past very close ties between Pakistan Intelligence ISI and CIA has suddenly brought Pakistan to the verge of another very important decision. How much should Pakistan help USA ? Is the US of A trustable after what happened when they left it alienated when their mission of breaking up of the Soviet Union was achieved ? What is to make sure that USA will not use it and dispose of, just like it has done before ? Should Pakistan allow its air and land resources to be used for a possible attack on Afghanistan ? These are decisons - for a keen observer of Pak-US ties - that can change how historians will write about a Fundamentalist America's reply to an attack on its fundamentals.

Let's not forget the Indo-US ties. India's already said it will help US fight the fight it's already fighting. Also India had apparently sent the US 200 photographs of terrorist camps in Pakistan sometime back.

Well talking about terrorist camps, the ex-Pakistan Prime Minister sent lists of Sikh terrorists and their camps in India to her Indian counterpart. How co-operative is that ? Thanks to that, the Indian government was able to deal a definitive blow to the Sikh "Khalistan" separatist movement.

I think they surely would ... and why wouldn't they - If it is the Bin Laden group behind this than its obvious that they are using the name of Islam to take lives of innocent people where there are commandments all over the holy book that this is prohibited in all ways.I believe surely that Pakistan probably will help in case of any such help is needed to clearly show that its not jihad that this people are fighting for - taking innocent lives but by helping the US to bring them to justice would be the real jihad (an act of war in the Muslim community - self {within ones own mental cravings}, pen {press}, sword etc)

"I wish to assure President Bush and the U.S. government of our fullest cooperation in the fight against terrorism,'' Musharraf said.

Yeah, I'll bet he does. Make NO mistake about it: the Pakistani and the Taliban governments are strong allies because a majority of Pakistanis are fundamentalists who support Bin Ladin. Musharraf should have cooperated BEFORE the WTC attack, to prevent it, but all help is welcome, I suppose.

I am suspicious of the military junta in Pakistan until I see what kind of cooperation they are going to give. They also have to deal with THEIR public opinion as well.
