Just in case anyone wants to beanplate with me, I wanted to try to start it off. So! Things I loved:

1. It's queer hip hop
2. Unapologetic, except for the one line referring to "vices".
3. Not just women! It's often seen as more of a problem to be a gay man in hip hop culture than it is to be a butch lesbian, so I was glad to see a couple guys in there.
4. Holy shit, the backup vocals that would have been done by women in a "traditional" rap video were done by a drag queen. Awesome.

Things I could still see as problematic:

1. Still very much into standard hip hop masculinity, all about sleeping with so many women you can't keep 'em straight (teehee, woops, unintentional pun)
2. The rape line. :(
3. The Rainbow Noise thing still seems very much about self promotion, although I'm not sure how accurate that is. It doesn't look like the sort of stuff coming out of, for example, the Doomtree Collective, you know? I'd really like to see some queer MCs doing stuff like Dessa, POS, and Sims.

I thought "Imma" meant "I'm going to", not "I am a". c.f. "Imma let you finish..."

I understand the parallel here and the effort to use hip-hop to re-appropriate a term, but I for one don't appreciate seeing that particular term pop up so carelessly on the front page--especially when only two words in the headline make sense, and one of them has been used to bully countless people to suicide.

That is correct. Also, "homo" means "homogenize". This probably all makes a lot more sense to you now.

Well it's not really the sort of song that has a hook. This is "hi we're all members of this rap collective and here are examples of our lyrics, aren't we the shit?" So instead of a hook you're listening for little turns of phrase you enjoy.

The idea is that if you like a given line, maybe you'll check the group or that individual out.

Think of it like a sampler platter of appetizers instead of a three-course meal.

nadawi - that was pretty cool, thanks. Jean Grae isn't gay but God's Gift is along similar lines.

I guess this video should serve as proof against those who think lesbianism and feminism are inextricably linked.

Not bad. I thought it was a little explicit for the people rapping. Kids rap all the time but the craziness is usually punctuation, not all the lyrics. The see me in the club/butt plug line kinda cinched it cause the kid looked like he was about 17, though he did have sunglasses on. It wasn't bad but the beat was the best thing of all of it. It had a few moments, and I give them a lot of credit for bursting on the scene with ferocity, I just could use a little more dopeness.

At least straight men and gay women can agree that women are awful, awful people for being sexually active.

(I thought they were all pretty talented, but can we please agree to stop calling women "hos"?)
