I laughed out loud at Coulter's column, but it's really not funny that she has a national platform where she's free to go completely apeshit. (Normally, I would think this is an overreaction to the death of a friend, but Coulter's always writing stuff like this.) I can understand when a paper does a man-on-the-street interview with a person who says we should kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out -- there's no shortage of idiots in the country. However, the publishers and TV producers who give Coulter a forum should recognize the perils of demagoguery like this. As for Barbara Olson, I didn't agree with her TV work or her writing, but her efforts to alert people to the hijacking were remarkable. Trashing her now -- and claiming that she made you do it -- is pathetic.

Those last two paragraphs are disgusting. "It is preposterous to assume every passenger is a potential crazed homicidal maniac. " Isn't that the whole point of security? I have loved Ann Coulter (big surprise, eh?) but I can't stand with her here. That she was friends(-s ly) with Barbara Olson, doesn't excuse those last two graphs. Which had as much to do with Christianity as Islam had to do with planes smashing into buildings. People often do things in the name of religion, or while being viewed as representatives of their named religion that are condemned by the very teachings of what they supposedly believe. We all know that. We've seen examples of that from the Crusades to the Holocaust to the Taliban. Those who have gone on violent and murderous rampages in Northern Ireland and Adolph Hitler are no more true followers of Christianity than Osama bin Laden, and he is no more a righteous Muslim than Pat Robertson. Both of these religions forbid murder, forbid violence against the innocent. We only do more damage by suggesting that these religions in their true forms have anything to do with these acts. Especially now, by continuing to promote the Arab = Islamic = Terrorist concept we will continue to see Mosques attacked and Arab (or merely dark-skinned) peoples of all religions being held up for contempt on our streets.

That woman is horrifying. Her defence of racial/religious profiling makes me ill. I'm wondering how, exactly, white-bread Idaho potato-farmer looking kids like Timothy McVeigh, the unibomber, and Canadian serial rapist and murder Paul Bernardo (the whitest of the white) fit into that little game. Good good. Let the white folk have their freedom. Shackle the muslims, don't read them their rights, throw them into internment camps and live with the guilt of stupidity, racism, and cruelty for hundreds of years afterward. Your children will be so proud.

It's offensive that Ann Coulter would suggest forced conversion to Christianity. I'm a liberal, I believe in freedom, I want peace. But we can't have peace if people force war upon us, especially if they use the excuse of religion to justify their hate. When they do that, when they pervert faith, when they attack Americans, we need to sheath our liberalism and attack and conquer them. It's nice to see that you joined us just in the nick of time to present your views (i.e. you're a brand new member to MeFi). Frankly, what use is it to absorb information unless you can bounce it off others, analyze responses, and formulate new positions and plans for action? And I'm not talking about political position here. Your basic thesis makes sense to me but the presentation's way out of line. Has anyone here actually complained about anything so trivial as longer waiting times in airports and, if so, why do you think their credibility would be unquestioned? Do you really think that everyone (or anyone for that matter) just sits here without giving blood/money/time to the cause or going to support marches/meetings? I don't. Personally, I am glad that people are talking online. It makes life bearable after this disaster until I can see my friends and relatives.

James 3:6 i could go on and on. if this woman indeed wants to convert ANYONE to Christianity, i suggest she read up on it a bit more. if people have editorial skills, now is the time to use them to build up, to help, to provide useful information, not allow your anger to turn your own mouth into a lethal weapon. its is time to build, not tear down. i know *my* God (that would be Christ, just so the author knows) would have it NO other way.

The events of this week have mainly had the effect of bringing moderates on both sides of the political spectrum together. Unfortunately, it appears to have also pushed those on the outer edges completely off the scale. In times like this, we can see various politicians and media pundits for what they really are. Also, to the above posters, I should point out that Ann is not a real blonde.

The letter I wrote to National Review: Ann Coulter's column acheived a rare trifecta being simultaneously moronic, racist, and un-Christian. As far as I can tell, the course of action she recommends involves the indiscriminate slaughter of non-combatants and forced religious conversation of the infidel. While a 21st century revival of the Crusades and the Inquisition may have a certain romantic appeal to those nostalgic for the Dark Ages as a public policy prescription for those not totally insane it leaves something to be desired. Ms. Coulter's column can perhaps be understood, if not excused, as the product of a mind unhinged by grief. What is the excuse of the editior who chose to run it?
