I'm never, ever gonna click on a SLYT post described as an 'execution' without a whole hell of a lot more context. Care to expand a bit?

Nice song. Poor execution.

Plus, the title's a bit of a spoiler. The name of the original upload was "Tune For Two."

So...what's this supposed to be selling?

Oooh, a self-referential comment. Freaky.

(seriously man, FIAMO)

Did people really think that this was going to be footage of a real life execution? Seriously?

Also, related.

If at the time of my execution my best response is to start humming that tune, perhaps my time has justly come.

As a lover of all things Mahna Mahna, this was enjoyable. Could've done with a happier ending though.

From the YouTube comments: "It was worth a shot."

I laughed even though I knew in advance it had a sad ending. Kind of sounds like my life, now that I think of it.

bad choice of music

or at least 100 bottles of beer.

If you're trying to distract your killer with a song, you need to pick a long one.

Or ask him to sing the entire score of the HMS Pinafore.

The bar needs to be higher.

Does it bother nobody else that the guy on his knees keeps skipping a repetition of part of the melody? EVERY TIME! Fuck, I'd have shot him too.

The bar needs to be higher.

Dwarves like to drink beer too, you know.

This is sad. And saddening. Not terribly clever, just terrible. YMMV, but this remains sad.

Is there some sort of context around this? Is it from a movie? Because as a standalone piece it's utterly without merit, and you have my contempt for posting it.

Is there some sort of context around this?

As my not entirely clear brain remembers it, there's an episode of the English version of THE OFFICE where this little gag plays out. One guy starts the melody. Another guy picks it up. And so on. Endless repetitions. Stupid fun. I suspect that if you're a Brit it might qualify as a meme.

Unlike.

I don't think the words "funny" and "execution" belong in the same sentence, and though "execution" has multiple meanings, without context, I cannot derive what the intended meaning may be.

It may be a great video, but I'm not going to click on that link without some expansion or description.

That could have been good. But why, God, why do people insist on GIVING AWAY THE DAMN PUNCHLINE in the titles of YouTube videos?

To those afraid to click: it's a short film. It's not an actual execution. Nothing you wouldn't see in an R-rated movie.

Needs more maracas.

I saw it as an allusion to A Thousand and One Nights and the victim as Sheherezade.
posted by binturong at 9:45 AM on April 2, 2011 [2 favorites]

Did people really think that this was going to be footage of a real life execution? Seriously?

When one gets posted, we'll have the backlash of, "So you're at work and you deliberately clicked on a link that was clearly labeled 'execution'? Seriously?"
posted by ODiV at 9:46 AM on April 2, 2011 [1 favorite]

Not sure if this is actually where the song came from, but I think this link might help clear up some of the confusion in here.

Sometimes I can't tell if half the mefites in a thread can differentiate between fiction and reality on youtube.

SPOILER: This one's fiction.

I was kind of digging this until the end bit and then I just felt sad and horrified.

This is a weird thing.
Formally, I like it a lot—some beautiful framing, understated acting, nice cuts, etc.— and clearly it's a product of talent but like, it's kinda ill-conceived.

I thought this was hilarious but I freely admit that it is the epitome of absolute jet-black humor and isn't going to be for everyone.

It looks to be an original production from Primodrom (found via Board Game Geeks forum). The video was originally posted to Vimeo.
