Skeletor Saves [NSFW]: a New York City art show based on artists' memories of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, to benefit the Ali Forney Center for homeless LGBT youth. (Gawker.) But this is no mere set of rasterbations from DeviantArt accounts. The abstract (Skeletor's Universe, Teela); the photographic (She-Man), the sculptural (Keldor's Mirror); the outsider-art style (Series of 6 Pappteller Paintings); and, of course, that which cannot be unseen (The Seduction of He-Man.)

(I kind of really like She-Man. Like if I had to point at something and say THIS! THIS IS THE EARLY 21st CENTURY! it would probably be that)

I was a bit disappointed by "She-Man", but only because of the title. I thought it was going to be a transgendered He-Man. As for a "female He-Man", we already have She-Ra.

(Also, when I was little, I used to be obsessed with pairing up toys/characters as "married", regardless of their genders - I didn't know the difference. Anyway, I thought Orko and He-Man were a couple for some reason. Probably because I had an Orko toy, and everyone else had He-Man.)

From a predictably bitter I Love Music discussion on Animal Collective, but relevant to this:
Like every time I go to the Whitney biennial, every single artist my age and younger can't seem to make art that doesn't have Nes controllers or Captain Planet in it.

It's fucking embarrassing to think this is how my generation is squandering their talents

lesli212: I had some Barbies and some stuffed rabbits and bears and a naked Ronald McDonald doll (!?) and a Modulok, as well as a knitting machine that pretty much only made tubes as far as I could tell. So these bears and rabbits and permutations of Modulok and Ronald were forever marrying the various Barbies, and they all wore knitted tube dresses to their weddings. One of the bears also wore little red rubber winter dog boots, which kind of preceded the whole sundress-and-combat-boots look that became cool some years later.

I'm pretty sure the model actually is transgendered.

That's every bad MetaFilter submission rolled into one.
