Watched this earlier today, I loved it. Very excited for the big day! I'm flying to Florida to watch with my mother. Question, why is the wedding so early? 11 a.m. service, I'm looking at the schedule and the congregation has to get there at 8 a.m. Doesn't it make more sense to do things later in the day? posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 8:12 PM on April 16, 2011 [1 favorite]
(Of course, I'm not just thinking of them- I'm thinking of us here in the US, getting up at 4 a.m. or earlier to watch it all on TV!) posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 8:14 PM on April 16, 2011 [1 favorite]
Of all the lookalikes, I thought the Camilla was particularly good. posted by ThePinkSuperhero at 8:18 PM on April 16, 2011 [4 favorites]
That was fantastic, and all of the lookalikes were easily identifiable which is a bit of a surprise. I'm not particularly excited for the event, I'm more looking forward to the next coronation except for the fact it requires the passing of Liz II. posted by Harpocrates at 8:21 PM on April 16, 2011

The Royal Wedding can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned, having given me a free day off work. posted by Richard Holden at 10:59 PM on April 16, 2011
It's the wedding of the second in line for the throne. Meh. Doesn't warrant much more attention than the Charles-Camilla wedding.

No no no no, this is how the royalty should be. Puffed up tourism-driving, media attracting, collective-plate creating puffy nonsense. Just direct itllal into hair style reports and cake updates and not on actually doing or deciding anything. If nothing else, the decision of one huge rich family to be on okay terms with another rich family means some people get to make some cash selling spoons. posted by The Whelk at 11:53 PM on April 16, 2011

Oh yay a royal wed thread! You know mefi's you have your own William and Kate in me and hubby robot rex. He goes by Willy though. And I'm not upping the royalty sound by going by Katherine. Here's us on our royal day. I totally want mefi Willy to get me that goofy knock off ring that's all over the tee vee too. Because I share names with the couple I'm justified in totally dorking out on all things royal this month. I will be there in front of my telly at 4AM, hopfully with knock off ring on my finger, drinking Pimms or something. Cheers! posted by dog food sugar at 12:58 AM on April 17, 2011 [1 favorite]

The official Royal wedding app is out tomorrow, iOS and Android users will be glad to hear. (Don't worry, there's plenty of unofficial ones available if you can't wait that long.) posted by Richard Holden at 2:48 AM on April 17, 2011 [1 favorite]
There was an hilariously snarky bit on the BBC about this the other day... apparently William's sole interest in Who's Who is 'sport'... good to know we'll be having an intellectual running the country.
Can't even be arsed watching the Marathon today so I can't see I'll have much enthusiasm for the big event... though I might tune in, muttering something about 'tumbrels' throughout. posted by fearfulsymmetry at 3:07 AM on April 17, 2011

I'll be doing my very best to avoid all forms of TV and radio on the 29th, and probably in the days leading up to it, but that video was hilarious. The lookalikes were surprisingly good - especially Camilla and William. Only Charles was a bit off. Even the lookalike Harry is a spitting image of James Hewitt! posted by afx237vi at 7:07 AM on April 17, 2011
Why do I care?
No, really, why do I care? I'm not even British! There's just something about the absolute absurd, enthusiastic frivolity of the royal wedding juggernaut that I find totally fascinating and adorable. rozomon: Camilla is like unbelievably realistic...I don't know if that bothers the actress.
I'm guessing most of the people in the clip are professional lookalikes rather than character actors. This might be Camilla. posted by afx237vi at 6:12 AM on April 18, 2011
