Should children get the proxy vote?

Should mothers get to vote on behalf of their children? Despite being a long-time supporter of reducing the UK voting age to 16, in line with many other countries worldwide, I had never considered this idea.

Warning: the article itself is not interesting, but I think the idea is food for thought, and I know mefites like thinking:) NB I didn't realise Iran had changed: considering you can get married at 9 (girls) (still?), you should get to vote then too!

Please don't post uninteresting articles, especially for a discussion point. Gimmee sweet, hot, delicious links that keep my interest.

"A good post to MetaFilter is something that meets the following criteria: most people haven't seen it before, there is something interesting about the content on the page, and it might warrant discussion from others." (My emphasis.)

Thus "Warning: the article itself is not interesting" would seem to condemn you from your own mouth.

It is an interesting idea particularly in the light of the fact that many mothers, working, single, or otherwise are without childcare, lack transportation, etc. and find it very difficult to even get to a voting place.
