Suffering from emotional distress caused by receiving a parking ticket? Not to worry -- members of NYC's Parking Ticket Emotional Reclamation Project places a therapeutic hand-written note with art into the ticket envelope in hopes to "restore emotional balance to New York, The World, The Universe."

A cute idea, but I suspect the artists may want to think a bit about what their intended audience would be.

I mean, hell, if i'm pissed off because I've just gotten a ticket, I'd be much more cheered up by this than I would this.

And this would just make things worse (the moment right after you've discovered you've gotten a parking ticket is not a conducive time to deal with philosophical thoughts).

/agree with EmpressC. The abstract art would just annoy me, but the balloon one or this would not be awful.

The problem with a lot of art is that the ego of the artist is too intrusive. A ticketee is in need of art that allows them to transcend the limitations of the mini-tragedy and see things from a larger perspective.

NYC still gives you an envelope with your ticket? Ours are just these little paper slips printed from a handheld ticket generator gadget that the parking authority uses.

Sorry New Yorkers, but you're slacking. The People's Republic has had this since last year.

For a New Yorker is there any difference between New York, the World, and the Universe?

The Boston parking clerk informed me that I could have a hearing if I wanted, but I was presumed guilty and had to prove I was innocent.

So if you want to make me feel better, gasoline and matches would be a far, far better salve for my broken heart.

Exactly. Sort of. The artists might be meaning well in the first order, but the implication is "my art is so awesome it will lift these poor saps' spirits". There is something that devalues art when the audience is captive, I think. Not only do I have to pay a fine, I *HAVE* to appreciate their gesture, or now *I* am the asshole.
