I was in that enormous crowd somewhere; I work only a few blocks away. Never seen so many people on the Hill at once before -- but then I hardly attend any Parliament Hill events, so so much for my perspective. Rivers of people heading there along closed-off streets nearly an hour before it began.
The service was simple and tasteful, if a little formal and restrained. An official ceremony, after all. The crowd was pretty emotional under the surface, though -- and one person not too far from my position held up a Churchillian V-for-victory salute throughout the half-hour ceremony. posted by mcwetboy at 12:27 PM on September 14, 2001
