I doubt it's something that I'll use frequently, or maybe even after today. But it caused a quick spurt of joy on my Facebook, with everybody sending each other puppies and nerds and "bromance stars", so I thought it might be something other people would find similarly briefly fun. posted by Rory Marinich at 8:58 AM on April 30, 2011
I hate the very thought of Farmville, but the idea of sending gold stars just because you can appeals mightily to me. posted by immlass at 9:15 AM on April 30, 2011
Guys. I've been a Social Media Marketer for years now. Since the early days of AOL really, and I have to tell you that this Star Me thing is going to be HUGE! HUGE I tell you! It's going to be the next Friendster or MySpace before the white flight. By the way, I can be found at http://star.me/cjorgensen (I got an account in the early beta before they sold out). When you are finally able to get an account send me a message on LinkedIn. posted by cjorgensen at 9:24 AM on April 30, 2011 [1 favorite]
I'm just jazzed I was able to get http://star.me/katy. posted by katillathehun at 9:30 AM on April 30, 2011
The only real difference between me and Ze Frank is that both my pupils are the same size. Also, I have less hair and less energy, but other than that we're the same. Well, we would be if he were as famous as me, but really, he can't be blamed for that. posted by cjorgensen at 9:47 AM on April 30, 2011 [1 favorite]
If this were anybody else, I wouldn't have signed up.
For, Ze, though? I'll do basically anything. posted by pts at 9:55 AM on April 30, 2011 [7 favorites]
I have a star.me account. It confuses and scares me. posted by alby at 9:55 AM on April 30, 2011
Yay! I managed to snag LMGM. Now, I just need some friends. posted by LMGM at 10:22 AM on April 30, 2011
I'm a huge fan of Ze Frank, but I'm not really sure I understand this. I've had an account for a few weeks. Is it really just that "stickers" or "stamps" part of Facebook that went by the wayside a few years ago, but with a much more ebullient interface? posted by chasing at 10:45 AM on April 30, 2011
I sort of love this. posted by device55 at 10:52 AM on April 30, 2011
I'm feeling strangely competitive about what is, effectively, the sticker trading little girls did when I was a kid. posted by selenized at 11:37 AM on April 30, 2011 [1 favorite]

LMGM:YES! I'm half-way to getting an achievement now!
In between umm.. 3rd and 4th grade(?) or was it 4th and 5th? Anyways... Around that time, I went over to a girl's house that I was friends with, and we were sitting there on her bed trading scratch-n-sniff stickers and all that fun stuff. The I jumped up on the bed and said "kiss me! kiss me now!" She jumped off, looked at me in abject horror and started to scream for her mom. I promptly sat down before she got the scream out. We pretended nothing happened. A week later I called to see if we could hang out and she said "My mom said I can't play with boys any more."
It's a dark moment in my life, one I'm not proud of. But that is what sticker collecting means to me. posted by symbioid at 7:08 PM on April 30, 2011 [2 favorites]
One of my proudest Internet Achievements was getting a video into one of The Show's intro sequences. This should be fun! posted by 1adam12 at 7:33 PM on April 30, 2011
DataPacRat has just starred all known members of Team Metafilter. DataPacRat doesn't really know why, and plans to more thoroughly investigate DataPacRat's relevant cognitive processes... and wouldn't object to any stars sent DataPacRat's way while doing so. posted by DataPacRat at 9:34 PM on April 30, 2011 [3 favorites]
I came home from a night out to, like, 7 new stars from y'all. <3 for immaterial stars that I never knew mattered until today!

I just want to point out that the sticker messages are not at all private, so when eyeballkid send you a sticker everyone can read what he has to say!
I think this would be a bit cooler it you had the ability to remove a sticker. The lame starter sticker for example. posted by cjorgensen at 12:57 PM on May 1, 2011
Sweet! I'm babbageclunk there. I got a Tiger star! posted by wilberforce at 3:47 PM on May 1, 2011
just a note that the default settings will post each freakin' star to your Facebook wall as well (if you have those accounts sync'ed). Feh. posted by LMGM at 7:20 PM on May 1, 2011
I wish these came in scratch n sniff. How cool would that be? Or puffy stickers! Those were high-value... posted by Karmakaze at 7:26 PM on May 1, 2011
I tried to send to babbageclunk, and it wouldn't send. Doesn't tell me anything but "invalid action" (great... wonderful way to inform me, what, exactly the problem is) posted by symbioid at 10:51 AM on May 2, 2011

The way they you pick recipients is kind of wonky, you can't just paste in a username, you have to type it (or at least one character of it) for the autocomplete to trigger and then pick from the autocomplete list. posted by juv3nal at 11:15 AM on May 2, 2011 [1 favorite]
