1. Plans were made between Israel and Arafat for a meeting. Bush did not suddenly urge them to meet.
2. The meeting is of course a good idea. But it also shows that the Bush approach of staying out of things doesn't work and that he must use the prestige of American power to try to resolve problems here and worldwide. posted by Postroad at 3:32 PM on September 14, 2001
Correction Postroad, Peres has announced this week that he had changed his mind and would not meet with Arafat until all terrorist action by Palestinians has stopped. As far as any role America might play in making that cancelled meeting happen, I'm not sure. posted by wsfinkel at 3:42 PM on September 14, 2001
