Throw the book at the little creep! Then, get him some counseling and make sure that he gets better.

I need more actual facts before I can summon up any outrage on this boy's behalf, and from what details are there (being reprimanded for this repeatedly over three years?) I haven't got much sympathy.

Australia. Also, misleading post.

Aww, you referenced that thing I was going to reference.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to drink beer and write stuff on the windows of my small room while coming up with the ideal comment.

Holy adjectives Batman!

Those are all nouns.

(Of course, the article’s title is just as misleading.)

But, but, but -- America is the land of the free, isn't it? That's what I keep reading on Metafilter. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to explain how this is different somehow.

Noted without comment:

The Oak Park-River Forest high School student gave descriptions of the girls claimed to be filled with "hateful" comments and "racial slurs," the Daily Mail reports.

This seems more like harassment than a free speech issue, since he's writing hurtful lists and handing them out at school. That probably violates school rules, at least, even if it's not really something that should be a misdemeanor.

Also, it sounds like he made these lists himself rather than having people vote and have a program rank the people. Seems like a stretch to link this to Zuckerberg's actions.

Oh look another shitty human being.

He also made paper copies of the list, which gave the girls titles including "Fallen Angel," "the Designated Drunk" and "the Amazing Bisexual," and handed them out to students at school.

Facebook doesn't seem to be the main cause behind his arrest, I'm guessing.

This is a bit thin and News of the Weird for my tastes. It's also a tertiary source. Maybe flesh it out a bit and try again?

Sorry, forgot I wasn't a mod there for a second.

I'm not going to defend what he was saying, but depending on how he was going about it I'll probably defend his right to say it. If the girls' families want to press a libel case that seems like the way to go. They probably stand a good chance of winning. Well, except for the Designated Drunk, since that's totally true (at least that's what Becky told Samantha).

I'm against sexism but I don't believe in EVER arresting somebody for speech. America's absolute love of free speech is the best thing about it, and I hope there's more to this story than what we're seeing here.

Okay, how about defamation and sexual harassment?
