Is this something I would have to have money to understand?

Wow, these are ugly, hope Ben Franklin dosen't roll over in his grave.

I'm neither a jingoist nor a Francophobe, but there's something weirdly upsetting about a bunch of Europeans photoshopping my money. I don't make fun of all those fake bridges you put on Euros.

Great. Beautiful.

Some of these are really good, like the submissions by Mozatti or Fermoyle. I would totally spend those.

Yeah I really like that, um, dark grayback.

French artists certainly have a jingoistic impression of America and Americans, don't they?

How they managed to tear themselves away from their baguettes and striped shirts for long enough to make these is beyond me.

This Gadaffi one is kind of cool looking, but it's using the 'revolutionary' flag not Gadaffi's actual flag, which is just solid green.

I like the Darth Vader $100 because it serves as a generic metaphor for all of the evil overlords that have made the U.S. what it is today.

At first, I found this (and the vertically oriented on after it) quite striking. Then I realized that they were killer ads for a Franklin Exhibition, but currency?

Then I go back to liking it again.

I like the museum brochure and Future-Evil-IKEA gift card.

They are without exception much more pleasing than the latest iteration from the US BEP, however.

The orange pot of delicious honey symbolizes America's commitment to its hardworking apiarists.

I submitted this.

At first I was all, man, it's gonna be tough to ask a bunch of art school kids to make any kind of nuanced commentary or even just a coherent artistic statement about what is probably THE most complex, symbol-laden object currently in existence. But then I thought, maybe the youth are the only ones capable of cutting through all that bullshit and see things from a more naked...

Oh. You... put Darth Vader on the $100 bill. I... see.

Oh. You... put Darth Vader on the $100 bill. I... see.

Well, Obi-Wan is already on the $1 (hence it's nickname -- the Obi-One), Yoda is on the $5, Luke is on the $10 and Jar Jar is inexplicably on the $20... There is some lobbying for replacing Han Solo with Leia on the $50, but who puts women on US money? Really, the ONLY slot open for Vader was the $100, with Palpatine on the $500 and Qui-Gon on the rarely-seen $1000.

There is strong support for Leia on the $1 coins, however.

MrMoonPie, you know Roosevelt Franklin grew up to be Clifford, right?

Got no ideas on the images. But currency needs thumb notches on the edges, like the bible. When I am rolling with a fat stack I want to quckly seperate the hundos from the small bills, I should be able to use the notches to quickly seperate the different types bills so when I make it rain, it ain't raining singles.

But the real collectors are interested in Tauntaun-Head Nickels.

It's nice to be up here in Canada, now that the Wampa is stronger than the Obi-Wan.

The complete redesigns are quite interesting. The Mozzati note is pretty badass and scary monolithic. The Beneyt note is almost plausible in an Idiocracy-sort of way .. 00.12 x pistol, LOL.

Or do what most currencies have (and works): different sizes for different values!

Then when you fold or stack them it looks messy.

I'm thinking of a combo counter/notcher.

Assign different members of your posse to carry different denominations. That way, when you want to make it rain, you just pick the right guy in your posse to hand over the currency. Problem solved.

Wow. I hadn't seen that. I literally recoiled and made a "guhh" sound. WTF.

I like a handful of these. But some are proof some artists strive to say the most obvious things in the most contrived way.

But if the money's too pretty, I won't want to spend any!

Seriously, though, some of these make excellent fodder for alternative-universe speculation.
