I've seen several comments touting the futility of StarWars in light of WTC, however, isn't the flip side of this that drilling in ANWR is an imperative at this point?

Bad post. Can't *anyone* restrain themselves from posting anything that they encounter or that comes in to their heads? Put up your own page if it's really that important to you. Metafilter is not your personal bulletin board.

Oil supplies aren't in jeopardy. So, no, it's not an imperative.

so rodii, i guess Metafilter is YOUR own personal bulletin board, since you can comment on whatever comes into your own head. what an asshole. if you really need some external links to 'validate' a post, here you go.

prodigal, this site isn't a mailing list, and what you posted is pretty much what I'd expect to see on a mailing list. Make sure to reference links is what others are saying.

...and since our oil supplies don't seem to be in immediate danger, I don't think tapping the wilderness for six months worth of oil is worth it, nor do I think the immense manpower, construction, and building materials are best spent building the wilderness pumping complexes. If we are indeed going off to war, the alaska issue can sit and wait until it's over to be revisited.

Prodigal, I do think some folks over-react on this message board. I think it would have served just as well to remind you that Metafilter's rule (I don't recall the exact page - I think the sign-up/new member page) is that if you're going to post on the front page, you need to post a relevant link, then comment on it. Mefi was created, as I recall, to share info/commentary from internet sources and open a discussion regarding those topics.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, since I myself don't have front-page posting privileges yet. (I just got the chance to join after the server overload following the Kaycee debacle.)

Oh. I guess that would be you, doing the correcting of any misinformation, Matt... :-)

Peace. Don't like a post? don't bother and move on. Why the vitriol?

I'm learning: word of the day - vitriol; Bitterly abusive feeling or expression.

Thanks.

And, no, drilling in Alaska is not worth the costs. What Matt said.

Maybe finding alternatives to oil and reducing our dependency on it are imperative.

No, no, that would be PROACTIVE and is therefore not allowed.

Maybe recycling SUVs would help.

Already we are seeing certain politicians take advantage of this situation to push agendas.Geez....

i heard somewhere that drilling in the NWR will lower our dependancy on middle eastern oil by only 2%. so, no, it's not worth it.

How about, instead of dropping bombs on whatever people we decide are responsible for this, we drop SUVs instead?
posted by donkeymon at 11:49 AM on September 16, 2001

I'm an asshole because I want posters to actually observe the ground rules of the site? Shocking! Take a pill, prodigal.

Umm, sorry guys, the number of SUV references have far outnumbered the number of cell phone references lately.

Please attempt to make up for the deficit immediately or else lose your Metafilter membership card.

rodii, i'll bet you were the one the teacher left in charge when he left the room for a minute. i don't remember to include a link in my post and you throw a mini-tantrum. Now you're telling me to take a pill? Where was that pill when you saw my bad post?
