The Chinese, long known for eating anything that moves, are experiencing protests about man's best friend. Chinese animal rights activists are trying to change the canivorous culture.
This post was deleted for the following reason: Animal cruelty is a subject that needs fairly delicate framing to go well and a casual ethnic stereotype doesn't really fit the bill. -- restless_nomad
This link should work.
Maybe we can solve world hunger if people started chowing down on chow chows.

The Chinese, long known for eating anything that moves . . .
I was hoping that this was a quote from the article. It's not. Isn't that a little bit offensive?

Totally offensive. You're totally stealing that shit from fatties like me.
I, a fatty, eats anything that moves. China has not earned that distinction yet.

Actually it's specifically the Cantonese who have the reputation of "eating anything that moves" (not literally of course. the range of animals their cuisine encompasses, such as dogs, is a lot more adventurous than other Chinese regional cuisines. But they also came up with dim sum, so maybe that adventurousness also marked greater innovation)

as a follow-up to my above comment, here is one of the main Chinese government media channel relating a humorous Chinese saying about Cantonese cuisine: " A humorous saying goes like this, "Cantonese will eat anything that flies except airplanes, anything that moves on the ground except trains, and anything that moves in the water except boats." This statement is far from the truth, but Cantonese food is surely one of the most diverse and richest cuisines in China. "

Lovecraft In Brooklyn: Dogs are animals. We eat animals. If they're not eating your dog who cares?
Agreed, but for me it's not about that. Countries like South Korea and China keep these animals in deplorable conditions which tend to be even worse than ours, and more importantly, they tenderize the dog meat while the animal is still alive. We used to eat dog meat when I lived in Lao, but those were always strays who actually lived proper lives and were killed humanely. One thing I will say about the people on that side of the world is that at least they eat every part of the animal and don't waste. I think this shows a lot more respect.

And 'long known for eating anything that moves'? Every culture eats things that other cultures consider gross.
