So, you'd love a new iPad, but can't afford one. Why not just sell one of your kidneys?

You can damned certain he won't sell the other kidney.

You can be sure he won't sell the other half of his brain, for that matter.

Has /anyone/ validated this story, at all?

This has been recycled on RSS, from blog to blog, for days now. And they links are all a twisty maze of passages back to some dodgy newspaper article that is obviously just a reprint from something reported in China.

Given how often these stories out of The Middle Kingdom are so often bogus (remember the "fake egg sweatshops" story? the "soy sauce from human hair" prank?) I remain skeptical. We love to hear wacky stories about those wacky foreigners and their wacky ways being wacky.

However, I admit I have not looked /that/ hard. But the story certainly does not hold up much after cursory attempts at verification.

Honestly, I don't think that you can.

That depends on what you mean by validation, I suppose. I honestly don't trust news outlets that much any more, given that my reporter friend tells me stories about how they aren't allowed to leave their desks to do interviews - all done by phone, on super tight deadlines. So they do get taken in with fake stories sometimes, because they don't have time to research properly.

But it's been picked up by a number of newspapers and outlets, including Reuters (see video in link). The video includes an interview with the mother of the kid. If it's fake, there's a reasonable amount of effort going into it.

remember the "fake egg sweatshops" story?

Man, I saw that appear in the damn NYTimes last month.
Even eggs, seemingly sacrosanct in their shells, have turned out not to be eggs at all but man-made concoctions of chemicals, gelatin and paraffin.

Funny, the video blurs out his face, but the picture in the article does not.

What? That Apple groupies are called i-tards because they're 'tards? Shiny junk for imbeciles - and they've just overtaken Microsoft and Intel combined. Who needs more validation than that?

Because corporate profits are the most important thing in this world. And the more profit a company makes, the better it is. In fact, Apple is the second best company in the world (by market cap). The only company that's better is Exxon!

I dunno. It's a lot easier than selling the first half.
