At the end of the day

Jeremy Kyle, the morning UK talk-show described by a judge as 'the human equivalent of bear baiting', is, like its closest US equivalent Jerry Springer, famous for featuring 'white trash'/'chav'* storylines and aggressive moralizing. But while Jerry Springer saw his latter-day career turned into an opera, Kyle has been given a rather more urban treatment.

He [Kyle] says he has OCD and licks his mobile phone to see if it's clean, but that's by the by.

Ugh. Kind of a no-win situation there. If it was filthy, that's a tongue-ful of dirt, germs, what have you. If it wasn't, it is now.

You mean if Kyle had any self-respect he'd stop these obsessive, self-destructive behavours and be like normal respectable people instead of shaming his mother?!?!

...wait, I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me, it was like being touched by a presence.

My life has never brought me to the point that I've thought participating in those shows, in any capacity, would be a good idea, and I'm thankful for that every day.

I actually heard a T Pain song for the first time this week1 and all I could think was "this sounds like Auto-Tune the News".

At the end of the day I'm not to keen on the Kyle one but his other remixes of Metro and Chocolate Rain are great and the EDL Anthem Muslamic Ray Guns is total genius

Wait. Seriously. These people are just actors, right? At least.. you'd make an absolute fortune as a casting bureau if you had these kinds of people on them, with the tattoos, weird teeth, outrageous dialects, and tell them to perform a little skit with Jeremy Kyle in front of an almost equally fake audience. Isn't that what Jerry Springer did?

(I might be totally wrong. In that case, it's a bit scary)

As one of the links suggest, they are real people. 'Outrageous dialects' are simply strong regional accents - the kind you get when your family hasn't left an area for generations. (I grew up in an area where many speak like guests on the show - it amuses me that people think they might be faked.) Dental care isn't great among the working class either because it can be costly (if you are on the minimum wage £200 for a crown and more for implants isn't easy to come up with).

They get offered a night in a hotel and the chance to have a DNA test or counselling for free - if you're poor and have problems, it might well be very attractive.

OK, I'm never going to use "at the end of the day" metaphorically again.

Not that I do this a lot, but I will be vigilant.

Obligatory cassetteboy-style (this one actually by DJ Rubbish) re-rendering of Jeremy Kyle show

Kyle one was ok, but the muslamic ray guns tune is piss funny.

I'd love to see an Improv Everywhere style prank where a group of people go on Jeremy Kyle and behave like rational human beings.

I'm interested in how far Kyle would go to get something - anything - to happen.

Wow, white trash is white trash, no matter what side of the Atlantic you are on. Go figure.

Its nice to see that you've inherited your grandfather's keen hatred of the lower orders and knack for offending everyone in a five mile radius, your Royal Highness. Any luck bagging Pippa yet?

Nope. Unlike Jerry Springer, it's all real. They just sort of dredge up the most entertainingly fucked up people for our amusement.

Apropos of nothing: 'At the end of the day the sun always rises' is my favourite mixed and mangled metaphor that I have actually heard someone use in real life.
