Heh, fun video. I just want to say that Steve Martin is awesome. As are the Steep Canyon Rangers. And they put on a hell of a live show - if you get the chance, definitely go to see them live.

That was kind of awesome and kind of disturbing. Therefore, a qualified success.

I liked the visual style of the video. The melody, okay. The lyrics laid an egg.

I give it two feathers up!

I would like to suggest that, in askme, we replace "DTMFA" with a link to this video.

gotta love Steve! Thanks h. bear.

There is nothing but good in this. More, please!

Finally, a MeFi link I can email to my ex-wife. Good post, hippybear, now go back on hiatus.

I'm going to wait to watch it until tomorrow but just seeing the link on Vimeo and knowing the song tells me it will be awesome. We're seeing Martin later this year and I'm very excited about it.

I'm not sure I totally "got it", but if you're a 66-year old comedian and you want to join a bluegrass band, I think that's a pretty great idea, and I'm all for it.

Not quite King Tut caliber but how can you not like this guy ? :)

Hooray for Gern Blanston!

I saw Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers at Bonnaroo two years ago. Best show of the entire weekend.

One time when I was a kid my parents were having a fight. My mom complained about something my dad had done, and my dad replied, "Well Excuuuuuuussssee Meeeeeeee!" For years and years I thought he made it up just to be a jerk to my mom.

Anyway, I love Steve Martin.

The part of the video where the bird is dancing in the middle of the crowd, and the Steve Martin bird kicks him out of the way because he needs to be the center of attention... that's oddly apt.

He may be grabbing all the attention, but I don't think the Steep Canyon Rangers would be getting a hundredth of the attention they're getting (including the Colbert Report) without him.

In any case, I'm sure they're not complaining.

I've really liked Steve Martin's bluegrass recently. My favorite on that album is — curiously enough, also about breaking up with happy results — Calico Train.

(Also, was it just me, or was the Vimeo video exceedingly Jib-Jab-by?)

Oh, that link is just to the instrumental. Here's a live version of Calico Train, with the words. (Although I really like the singer on the album, Mary Black.)

I love Steve Martin, and am so goddam happy he finally decided to get back to playing the banjo. (He's been awesome at it for many years) Nth to the "see him live"-- I saw him last year and it was super.

As for the video, though, I'm with Alt F4, it seems like a glorified JibJab, so stylized that the song gets lost.

I finally got around to watching the video. I'm not a Jib Jab watcher and I'm familiar enough with the song that the stylization didn't seem overdone or overwhelming to the song to me. I liked it a lot and am absolutely feeling more psyched about seeing the band because of it.

Um, oooops. I just went back and looked at the cover of the CD this song is from. Now I get the video.
