Time For Justice Thomas To Resign?

Time For Justice Thomas To Resign? Justice Clarence Thomas has amassed quite a laundry list of ethical problems, including unethical political fundraising, failure to follow disclosure laws, and a long list of expensive gifts from major GOP players. Forty years ago, Justice Abe Fortas was forced to resign for less.

Well, Fortas probably felt some sense of shame, so a Thomas resignation seems unlikely.

If Scalia resigns, Thomas would follow him, out of general principle.

Time for Think Progress to call for Justice Thomas to resign? On their clock, when is it not time for Justice Thomas to resign?

Well, if Think Progress thinks so...

Poor Thurgood Marshall. He tried so hard to hang on until there was a Democrat in the White House.

Until Thomas tweets his wang, he's got a job for life. The Dems do NOT HAVE THE SPINE to pursue this aside from some snarky comments and limp wristed handwringing. He's old and obese, maybe hypertension will do the job for you.

Christ, not this shit again...

I'm just saying, if we want Thomas to retire, we could get WikiLeaks to post some Scalia wiener shots, maybe.

Let's just wait until he tweets a picture of his penis.

This may be the one thing that'd make Thomas on the bench look like the lesser of two evils.

Thomas' conflict of interest was the issue Anthony Weiner was working on when he wasn't sexting. Which makes it just that much harder for any Democrat seeking respectability to pick up now.

I've seen the pics and it's obviously a prosthetic. Oh, wait, that was "Long Dong Silver", I always get those two mixed up for some reason.

Yeah, that ThinkProgress article blows chunks. First of all, Abe Fortas wasn't really forced to resign "for less." Fortas accepted a life-long $20K a year retainer from a dude about to be indicted for unspecified legal services. And there were allegations of actual foul play w/r/t Fortas being asked to exert his influence as to said dude's criminal charges.

Second, I am pretty sure that Scalia quote is taken out of context, and that he did not call Thomas "a nut" as the article strongly implies.

Third, this statement is just laughable: "His fellow justices criticize him for showing 'utter disregard for our precedent and Congress’ intent.'" TP wants to suggest here that the other SCOTUS justices disdain Thomas and think that he rampantly disregards precedent and Congress's intent, regularly, for fun, after lunch perhaps. Whereas the actual quote is taken from a dissent criticizing a majority opinion that Thomas wrote in one particular case. If you read SCOTUS opinions, you know those sorts of accusations are hurled at the majority in every other dissent.

I take no position on Thomas' ethical problems (though he seems like he's maybe not such a great guy). I do think these kinds of misleading, rabblerousing hit pieces aren't good for a whole heck of a lot.

Next time, could we not have all three links be from the same political website? I'm sure ThinkProgress is swell, but surely someone else has written about Abe Fortas.

Until Thomas tweets his wang...(ie: he'll have job).

or

Thomas tweets his John Thomas...

or his Johnson etc...

I fear you are right, but then again, that guys head looks like it is ready to explode with vindictive hatred.

Never in a millions years. Thomas' judicial "philosophy" could be summed up in two words: "Fuck you."

He's not going anywhere. His corporate owners would never let it happen.
