Japanese high school baseball is serious, serious business. "Koshien," the national championships (named after the stadium at which they're played) is the nationally televised and watched by millions. Very big deal.

Why would anyone make a videogame about high school baseball? The incredibly depressing crowd agrees with you. There are like 20 people in that stadium, and it looks like several people are sitting alone. So by my estimation, there are 7 relatives of players, 3 public masturbators and 10 people who just like doing drugs in the fresh air, and needed some place that was guaranteed to be abandoned.

QWOP was one of those flash games where I didn't like it, I didn't think it was good, I wasn't enjoying it, but for some reason I had to keep playing it. It is not a particularly intelligent part of my brain that made me keep playing. It always feels like if you do it right, that jerk will actually run. So you keep trying. At first you think QWOP has some kind of physical problem. After a half hour, after the hundredth time he has collapsed on the track like a closeted jellyfish for no reason, you stop blaming yourself and start blaming him. I think I have a Lore Sjoberg site (L to blame for the time I wasted on that goddamned game. And I guess while I'm at it, I'll blame East Manitoba Regional Kabaddi Champion '94 for reminding me of it. In which case: more like East Manitoba Regional Junior Kabbadi Champion '95. Jerk.

Koshien is roughly equivalent to the US Little League World Series. Sort of, except that the Japanese SHS national baseball tournament is broadcast every year on one of the big national TV network and a big chunk of the general population actually watches it. It's one of the main TV events of summer vacation (I've tried to get into it, but there are a lot of bad match-ups that result in blow-outs; a few good games and talented kids though). Checking the video, it's funny at first but wears off pretty quick. Maybe I'll give it another go later with the sound on...

I tried QWOP for a few minutes, and it felt like it was fighting my bodies tendency to treat my hands symmetrically. I think if instead of QWOP I could play QWPO (or WQOP) it would be a whole lot easier.
