Awesome! It does feel kinda like walking around there.

Someone should take up drawing the residential area and letting people tag their nifty-looking houses.

THIS IS WONDERFUL YES.

Also, not really felt, Reykjavik is tiny. I walked across it accidentally following bad directions and I was still comfortably within the city center complete with friendly wandering kittens just hanging out on the sidewalk.

My wife and I stayed in Iceland for about 36 hours on our way to France a few years back, and wound up stumbling here, a bakery that just celebrated 177 years of service. And they gave us a free canvas bag to carry our loot away in, at least I think it was free. We could have just shoplifted it in a communications failure, and the good natured clerk not bothered explaining that we were supposed to pay for it.

Either way, it's really fun having a bag with the word "Bergstaðarstræti" prominently featured.

I really looks inviting when hand-drawn. Maybe something for other tourist boards to consider? My home town looks positively post-apocalyptic on the Google satelite map, due to the images being form late spring. I'm guessing it doesn't excactly attract tourists.

It only seems to cover central Reykjavík, i.e., 101 and thereabouts. It doesn't go to the park on the hill, whose name I forget, or the geothermally heated beach south of the centre.

The choice of shops there strikes me as a bit touristy; there are lots of gift/knitwear shops and "traditional Icelandic" restaurants, though a few notable omissions. (They left Icelandic Fish & Chips off, as well as that bar co-owned by Damon Albarn. Also omitted are Reykjavík's various notable record shops (12 Tónar in particular).) They did include Te Og Kaffi, though, who do sell excellent coffee.

Oh man, it cuts out just before you get to my apartment, though my parents' house is on it.

Yeah, you can barely walk a block in downtown Reykjavík without passing by two or three cats. It's pretty great, especially for someone who's lived with cats most of his recent past, but can't right now.

machaus: no Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur?

They're on the map, in a little red-roofed shack east of the harbor.

Oh, and the best places to get coffee in Reykjavík are Kaffismiðjan, Kaffifélagið and Café Haïti (in case you're ever there and need a coffee).

Holy cow, that's amazing. I particularly love the swans and the construction on Vonarstræti.

It's making me all wistful for summer in Reykjavík. I'd love to go down to the pond and scare some ducks. Well, in theory. In actuality there's a lot of "cold and windy" that would put a damper on that plan. (Or so I'm going to keep telling myself.)
