Splitscreen: A Love Story is a short film by JW Griffiths. Filmed entirely with two Nokia N8 phones, it was the winner of the first Nokia Shorts competition.

Great stuff! Thanks for posting this. One hell of an editing job.

(wonder if the director is related to D?)

That was excellent. Rather than get into art/sponsorship/advertising issues, what I really want to know is how they coordinated the angle at which they filmed the planes' takeoffs. That seems like the hardest bit to have to reshoot.

I'm guessing that while the video itself was shot using the phones, allowances were made for cropping/resizing/tilting. Otherwise I guess it would just be a case of aligning the phone with the edge of the window and hoping for the best (or shooting it with like 10 phones at slightly different angles and choosing the best match)

I had an urge to start singing that song by Daniel Powter.

Fantastic. I laughed out loud during the plane takeoff sequence. Thanks!

I'm not a video editor, but this one seems easy. I'm sure there is post-processing software to rotate a clip to any desired angle. Maybe that's cheating, but it's OK with me. I'm more impressed with the location work. They've taken the time to scout compatible locations across Paris and London (like the clip where the metro / tube crosses the seine / thames).

Very impressive editing!

Quibble with the subtitle, though. Splitscreen: A Meet Cute would be more like it. A Lyrical Meet Cute, even. But if you're going to claim a love story, you need to have rather more of two elements, namely story and love.

Anyone else notice that the Manhattan geography seems off? The woman appears to go via subway from 168th St to 231st St to Grand Central. Then she takes a cab to an airport via the Brooklyn Bridge. She is one spectacularly inefficient traveler.

She's got to make a detour to pick up the bomb.

It's excellent!

There's some background on the filming here. Plus JW Griffiths has posted some making of videos on his Vimeo page.
