It's going to be amusing the day when say, inner city urban gangs, are a common jolly adventure motif. posted by Phalene at 2:52 PM on June 30, 2011
I really had to click around on the site from the first link to understand what this was. I really thought it might be a contest of some sort for dogs who ride (work? live?) on boats. Which would have been awesome. posted by troublewithwolves at 3:23 PM on June 30, 2011

Isn't that pretty much the reason that suburban white people listen to gangsta rap? posted by strangely stunted trees at 3:47 PM on June 30, 2011

It's not really at the "jolly" stage yet. For example very few parents would organize a street gangs of LA themed fifth birthday party. Sort of like how the can-can is okay for a little girl's dance troupe, but pole dancing classes are still something that is more associated with adult women. posted by Phalene at 4:29 PM on June 30, 2011
Hey, I didn't really know there were pirate festivals, much less that there were so many! Nifty. Thanks :) posted by galadriel at 8:21 PM on June 30, 2011
Is it too much to ask organizers of these events to, say, mention where these events are located? Most preferably on the front page? I still have no clue where Pirate-Island might be. And unless the location is part of the name, I had to dig around on the off-chance one might be in my hemisphere.
With that said, as a former denizen of Carroll Gardens, I've got to wonder who in his right mind would search for Acipenser oxyrinchus or anything else in the Gowanus Canal? posted by arkham_inmate_0801 at 7:32 AM on July 1, 2011
