Closed to the public for more than 300 years, St. Petersburg's New Holland Island is about to get a major makeover. The 410M USD redevelopment project, managed by none other than the power couple Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, aims to transform Russia's first military port into a residential and commercial area while preserving the island's historic warehouses. Take a look at New Holland Island.

I like me a bit of history, but what shits me is website designers that transition images for me as if I have lost the use of either my hands of free will. Interesting post.

Beautiful and technical photography in that last link. I hope that their "full restoration" (in the ArchDaily link) of the warehouses isn't too perfect. I'd rather see them stable without becoming sterile if possible.

Another reason why St. Petersburg is on my bucket list.
Thanks for the post.
