Tired of divorced women finding themselves by spending their book advances to have contrived ego trips around the world? Looking for a different kind of foodie website that isn't about the best cupcakes or the best french toast? The guys at Man/Beer Love deliver a decidedly less saccharine version of the foodie blog.

Man, what kind of crappy foodie blogs are you usually reading?

I don't think those were foodie blogs, but Lifetime movies.

I hate that I'm not a "man" because I fucking hate beer. Whatever.

Thanks for painting divorced women in such a nice way.

Divorced women are the enemy now? Man, I'm behind.

Is it that you're afraid of women or that you actively dislike them? And is it all women you feel that way about, or just this class of imaginary straw[wo]men you've created here to rail against for no apparent reason?

I assumed this was a quote pulled directly from the blog, but I can't find it anywhere. So, uh. This is pretty creepy editorializing, then?

Geez everyone calm down.. The title of their blog is a play on Eat Pray Love, that puzzlingly popular journey of self-enlightment through spending which had taken the country by storm. That is not in any way my "view of women" so take a chill pill and read about the delicious beer.
posted by ReeMonster at 9:05 AM on August 4, 2011 [1 favorite]

I like beer. I like women. I like beer drinking women. I like women when I am drinking beer. I don't like dark beer. I like women.

Proof positive that with post framing, you can get fresh-squeezed GRAR out of the most inoffensive links.

As ZenMasterThis pointed out, it is a spectacular failure of a play on Eat Pray Love, because it sounds much more like a play on Man/Boy Love. Which, uh. Yeah.

WHY ARE ALL THESE DIVORCED WOMEN FINDING THEMSELVES BY SPENDING THEIR BOOK ADVANCES!!? THEY ARE RUINING EVERYTHING!!! FML

Chill pills are contraindicated with alcohol, sry.

It's also a pretty douchey way to open the post because surely I am not the only one who will assume that these otherwise totally nice-seeming guys who really dig beer are the ones making shitty statements about women. (I suppose I shall speak in defense of cupcakes and french toast as well.)

Who said I'm jealous? I've traveled the world performing music, don't need any advance for that.

If so, it's a pretty bad "play," all things considered. I'm pretty sure (probably about 99.9% sure) that it's a play on Man/Boy Love.

OK then, official apology for the framing. I didn't think MeFi loved that insipid book!

I just want the word "foodie" catapulted into the sun.

For example, their About page mentions nothing about privileged divorcees or foodie blogs.

Strawman.

Dude. No one gives a shit about the book. The book is not the issue, the weird and unnecessary misogyny is.

Ugh. Really? That's... excruciatingly tasteless.

Which is a shame, because the blog seems all right.

These women and their blogging and their eating!

I disliked EPL, though I do wish that a book company had given me money to go and get over a relationship/career faliure instead of me having to eat pies and watch re-runs of Cybill. Another forum I visit refers to such food blogs as 'bunting cupcake'. I like both, and I also like, um, 'man food'. It's not really a different kind of food blog, though - there are many many drink blogs out there, some of which are written by women, and some of which don't see imbibing as making one the spiritual successor of Hemingway's mantle of manliness.

The only thing more boring than beer is people that think beer is fascinating and if they could just teach us we'd find beer just as fascinating too.

Oh, and generic craft small batch microbrewery suds all pretty much taste the same. Bubblegum and bananas if you'd like a generalization.

Actually, why am I posting on this thread when there is both CIDER and MEATS available on the roof of my office building? Beer for some, minature cupcakes for others!
