Keepon dancing

Will a slightly pared down version of the My Keepon, a fuzzy yellow dancing robot, be this year's holiday hit? (For extra added schmoopy, a portion of the proceeds will go to autism research.) Pretty fly for an AI.

I much prefer this Spoon Keepon collaboration video.

Eh, the Wired one really has distressingly little Keepon action.

More Keepon, fewer shots of random Japanese people!

Darnit, forgot the hat tip to Media Dis&Dat.

Oh man, that Spoon video (and this follow-up) was one of the first really awesome links I ever saw on here and I love it utterly. Keep on, Keepon (and your robot pals) (and your deadpan scientist friend).

I don't know but this is somewhat hilarious

I can't afford the real thing. Have to get the knockoff.

Also: squeeee!!

Anyway, how many people think the black dot in the middle of his face is a nose, and how many people view it as a mouth?

If it doesn't sell out for Christmas, they can add a yellow tail and beak and market it for Easter as a "Peepon".

I don't ever want to see one of those things again, I mean it.

I want one of these, but only because my Furby has been lonely for so long.

The Keepon video is why "Don't You Evah" was the theme song of my dissipation in '08, though watching it now, post-2009, all I can think while he's dancing with the other robots at the end of the video is "This has all happened before, and it will happen again."

Has anyone seen My Keepon? All these videos are of the original Keepon, which I assume has more sensors, and possibly more degrees of movement. Also, it sounds like for the Spoon videos Keepon's movements are programmed by Dr. Michalowski; will a generic algorithm be able to generate movements that are as delightful for any arbitrary song?

I hope people don't see the Keepon videos, rush out and buy My Keepons, and get disappointed. But if My Keepon is anything like Keepon, I can't wait to see the Youtube videos showing his reactions to speed metal and Boards of Canada.

The original is $30,000. I don't know how much cheaper My Keepon will be, but $30k would probably buy you 3,000 or so of the dancing Coke cans that are at this moment sitting forgotten and unloved in the nation's thrift shop toy bins.

i wish that any of the money that goes to autism research would go to an organization that didn't try to eliminate us.

PinkMoose, I don't think Toys R Us has announced where the autism research money will be heading, so perhaps it's the perfect time to influence the decision with a proactive letter-writing campaign.

Yeah, uh, it's just a dancing Coke can minus the Coke can, plus a couple of Nerf balls and some googly eyes.

Really, kids? Really?

It has more dancing skills than many people I know.

Some people see it as a mouth? Weirdos!

Ok I just forced myself to see it as a mouth and it is less cute and more creepy now.
