I like every single word in that description.

This is one of many rewards that the Finnish enjoy for being so darn tootin good at everything. I mean, have you seen their stats? They're the Lisa Simpson of the world.

This is a regular thing on the Saco River in Maine, also.

That's just about every summer weekend on the Chattahoochee in Atlanta.

Love the children's wading pools pressed into service as a boat, some with a small support vessel/dinghy filled with ice.

Looks pretty much like just about every remotely interesting Texas River (Guadalupe, San Marcos, Brazos, etc) throughout the entire summer. You might be getting sun burnt, the inner tube is chafing your skin, and the river might be moving a a glacial rate but with an extra tube to store a cooler full of beer it's all good.

Should be able to do something like this on Saturday. Right in my back yard.

I was going to say that it makes me sad that drunk Americans in large groups are too stupid and belligerent to do this successfully but the above comments about similar events make me feel a bit better.

Yep, looks like my Huron River in Michigan on a hot summer weekend (but that would be the "stupid and belligerent" contingent).

this may be but the larger issue of legality is still in the links, in this case, organizing the event. Also, if your comparing a similar event in regards to the united states you may have have some heedy navigation concerning alcohol consumption of rivers.

I just cannot picture a drunken river ride organized at the Dexter cider mill but thats me.

Well, Finland compares well to the best country.

This is a very poor picture of Finland actually. Finns don't waste time looking for excuses to drink - or engaging in activities that might detract from getting a serious drink on.

Two Finnish guys go on holiday. They go directly into the bar at the airport and order a drink. The one Finn holds up his glass and says "cheers". His friend gives him a dirty look and says "What gives? Are we here to drink, or to talk?"

That first link, a few photos down, I think its Samuli on the platform...

Pray don't imagine that once a Finn has his serious drink on, those words would not describe him.

But the second link starts mentioning the littering, and then possible legal action against the "creators" of the original event, because people "planned" it on their forums.

From "wow that looks nice and fun" to "well yeah, there's that" in the click of a link...

New Braunfels, one of the best tubing locales in central Texas, has just banned disposable containers on the river because of the litter. They banned coolers in 2007. It's not just Finland, unfortunately.

This is also done all summer long outside of Phoenix, Arizona in the Salt River.

I was waiting for someone to mention the Salt River. A more wretched hive of scum and villainy there never was.

Where I live, is the Reuss River. I very much want to float on it! I only just discovered a place where people are doing just that. The river flows from the most-beautiful Lake Lucerne, north to join the Rhine. It's astoundingly clear! But it does flow with a bit more vigour than any river I've swam. However, I find the rafts used here are rather lame. A pile of tubes roped together would be the ticket, I think.

TL;DR: People who share ideas should be punished; or maybe not.
