Excellent. I like marimba and I like the Legend of Zelda theme.

Here's the London Symphony Orchestra's version of it.

Was anyone else creeped out by the complete blankness of the walls? It was like they'd broken into a new house and installed their marimba just for the video.

There are two walls in the first video containing a total of 3 framed pictures.

Also, I love the marimba and a lot of these Zelda songs, so the two together is awesome.

On triangle? How apropos!

Sorry dirigibleman, but you really do owe it to the artists to list the instruments accurately. You'll note it's not the triangle they're playing. It's the fucking Triangle!

This guy playing a duet with himself on his home-made PVC instrument makes me smile, partly because he's obviously having so much fun, and partly because he sounds great.

I like how it gets all Morricone at 2:26.

Chopin said that nothing sounds better than a guitar safe perhaps two guitars.

When someone plays a marimba it is said one can hear the tree of life weep.

When more than one instrumentalist is playing the same marimba, those deafening harmonics and overtones are making you deaf faster than any other perscussion instrument you can think of.

Holy shit, I've been listening to people play music from Zelda games on marimbas for like an hour. What an excellent use of a long weekend.

This interpretation of the Hyrule Field theme from Ocarina of Time is my favourite.

Damn those kids. The word "epic" now makes me cringe even when it's used appropriately.

Was just coming in to post that; the FreddeGedde Wind Waker Unplugged medley is one of few things that can always be relied upon to fill my heart with joy, no matter how sour my mood.

Agreed. It prompted me to post him to the Blue a while back.

I'm going to make a marimba now.

Only God can make a marimba.

Well, the Musser company does OK too, I guess.

a division of Ludwig!

My rock handbell group (Pavlov's Dogs, natch) plays a version of the Zelda theme. It's wicked hard to do on handbells (and the video's from when it was a new song for us), but the crowd recognition is pretty awesome.

Holy crap, your handbell group is awesome, ilana.

Agreed!

The music from SMB2 is in my head more often than any other vidya game, possibly more than any other tune, period.

Thanks, hades, flapjax and JHarris! (I may or may not have run downstairs to tell the guy that some famous MeFites think I'm cool. Which probably makes me not cool.) Anyway, I'm hoping we get to record soon (that video was about three months after I first picked up a handbell, so there are a couple of trainwrecks, but at least Somebody To Love went well). And we do a mean Wizards in Winter. Incongruous things are fun, so...nerdrock handbells playing Star Wars/MGMT/Bowie forever!

That was the best 20 minutes listening to bells ever. Thank you ilana.
