But the mind kind he knows like the palm of his hand.

When a cowboy says 'women,' he means two different kinds: There's the real kind and then there's the kind in his mind.
A song by Dan Reeder, for your edumatainment.

Masturbation is funny. Also poignant.

On the off-chance there's anyone else who's has spent the last two minutes clawing their face trying to figure out what the hell this sounds almost exactly like, it's this.

I heard this song a couple months ago and it kinda stuck in my head. And I'd find myself singing the refrain from time to time; luckily it's just understated enough that one can sing it in public and no one will catch on to what the song's about.

(Also, when I say Vietnam it sounds just like coca-cola.)

Ahh Dan Reeder. I couldn't love him more. We played his version of Whiter Shade Of Pale in the church as my wife came up the aisle.

I found out about Dan Reeder via metafilter - "Clean Elvis" is simply amazing. Love his voice.

A song about songs about masturbation, which is also about masturbation? It's a meta-cowboy-song!

What, you all have not heard Willie Nelson do "Cowboys Are Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" yet?

Well, there's many a strange impulse out on the plains of West Texas.
There's many a young boy who feels things he can't comprehend.
And a small town don't like it when somebody falls between sexes.
No, a small town don't like it when a cowboy has feelings for men.

....

Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other.
Say, what do you think all them saddles and boots was about?
And there's many a cowboy who don't understand the way that he feels for his brother.
And inside every cowboy there's a lady that'd love to slip out.

Oh man, this guy is amazing. Thanks!

Apparently you can listen to his full albums on the music section of his site. "Sweetheart" had me at the end of track one ("Waiting For My Cappucino") with "If I were Jesus, I'd command this dump to wither, board up its doors and windows, forever."

Well, yeah, spitbull, but that one's about teh queer cowboys, and this one's about lonesome cowboys wanking with firm, unrelenting heterosexual intent. Totally different.

here is of course Geronimo TreviƱo's anthem, "My Heros Have Always *Killed* Cowboys."

yes, this song is mostly referencing masturbation ("palm of his hand")

but there is something definitively (& sweetly) homoerotic about it that i keep hearing every time i listen to it.... makes me think of Waltzing Matilda.

also, Dan Reeder has a really nice voice. thank you.
