The auction has been going on for a full week and I can't find any items which have actually collected any bids. posted by Steven Den Beste at 9:51 AM on September 23, 2001

It did strike me that Vixen has had a remarkable number of subclavian cathers. These are big IVs that let you run in remarkable amounts of fluid but people only get them when their blood pressure is too low to get a vein in the arm or because (most commonly) they've destroyed their veins through IV drug use. Not the scars under both clavicles (high on her chest) in this link. It's clear why folks, even fetishists, aren't lining up for these goodies. posted by shagoth at 10:25 AM on September 23, 2001
in light of the national flood of generosity and charity over the past 12 days, it seems that we have found a dam. posted by grabbingsand at 10:29 AM on September 23, 2001
Isn't this stuff just a tad overpriced, even for perverts? Most don't have bids and the rest aren't going to go near a $75 dollar reserve. I never understood why you'd want to auction something with a reserve, either sell it at that price and be done with it or take your chances on its market value with a non-reserve auction.
Secondly, I'm still wary of all WTC charities popping up all over the place. There should be a law show the proposed breakdown of funds at every point of donation. Guy on the street collecting for x charity: show me that stats before I show you the money.
There's nothing stopping me from starting a non-profit org making myself chairman and getting some college-aged volunteers to mass-email and go on the streets collecting. I will of course fail to mention that administrative costs including the chairman's salary (because it takes all his time and he cant be bothered with a job) is going to be somewhere between 40-50% of the money received.
There might be some law on how money is spent, but I think charity benefits from keeping some information our of the public's eye. How willing would you be to donate some money to some random charity (not WTC in particular, especially right now) when those that are running it live a lot better than you? Are you being greedy or are they? posted by skallas at 10:32 AM on September 23, 2001
