On the third Wednesday in April, at 9:00pm, an inaugural banquet will be held during which time the current President reads the new verses of the Ballad of The Year in Review
I'm kind of sad I went to college on the West coast, which seemed to attract much less pomp and circumstance.

There's more to running a starship than answering a bunch of damn fool questions.

There will be a birthday part for Bilbo and Frodo held on September 22nd or as close to that date as possible. The specifics will be addressed by the Events Committee (Article VII, Section 2)

Hurrah! One hopes they are able to keep the Sackville-Bagginses away.

That's it, I'm throwing a party for the Bagginses next Thursday. You are all invited, although there won't be fireworks because there's a burn ban.

Section 5. In the event a candidate is unopposed, the formalities of Article V, Section 4 need not apply to the election of that position, unless the candidate insists by verbally announcing, "No, really. I insist."

I have actually scheduled a re-read of the Trilogy starting on the 22nd in honor of the Bagginses. Already read The Hobbit and The Silmarilion earlier in the month as preparation. :)

This is pretty great. As someone who's run a student org on a campus recently: universities frequently make all their student orgs write up constitutions, with clear procedures on officers and succession, even if you're the pacifist group on campus, eschew formal leadership and decision making and only have like five active members. To have some fun with it, rather than just make something up like I did ... that I can support.

Section 5. The primary objectives (to be attempted within 24 hours of the holocaust) are to:
...
• Rename the Seeley W. Mudd building to the Harcourt Fenton Mudd building.

This should be pursued in any event, under general principles.

I'm a member of the Minnesota Science Fiction Society. In the by-laws. it is spelled out that there is no official abbreviation of the group's name. MnStf, Minn-STF, etc. are all okay. (Just because you're out of school, that doesn't mean you can't belong to a cool group like this.)

Oh you ought to see them when they hit grad school, especially as they're closing in on the PhD.

The CUSFS' bylaws seem to be similar to the mores and koans of the Elder Statesmen of The Eltingville Comic Book Science Fiction Fantasy Horror Role-Playing Game Club. Swearing on a stack of Phillip Jose Farmer anthologies, I openly defy anyone to tell me it's mere coincidence.

I was going to write some harsh words about their choice of white lettering on a bright red background for their site, but changed my mind after reading this:
Section 5. The primary objectives (to be attempted within 24 hours of the holocaust) are to:

Secure the Columbia University campus.
Secure supplies from any surviving stores and hospitals.
Secure the entrance to New York City Water Tunnel Number 3, Shaft 11b, located at Amsterdam and 120th street.
Secure as much of Morningside Heights as deemed practical.
Rename the Seeley W. Mudd building to the Harcourt Fenton Mudd building.

articseal... Kevin Costner, who has done his fair share of post apocalyptic movies, said it best; "if you build it, he will come. "

This was amusing fun and games until they called for exterminating school officials. Maybe I just need to adopt a sense of humor or something, but that crosses a line for me.
