Dish Network announces a plan to compete with Netflix in streaming and DVD services. The new package, called the Blockbuster Movie Pass, offers 100,000 movies and TV shows by mail, 3,000 movies streamed to TVs, 4,000 movies streamed to computers, 3,000 games by mail, unlimited in-store exchanges and access to more than 20 premium movie channels.

The movie pass launches Oct. 1 and will cost $10 a month for Dish customers. New Dish subscribers can receive the movie pass as part of the America’s Top 200 $40 month service package.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is interesting news but it needs to be phrased less ad-like and more "this is neat stuff for MeFi" like. Maybe try again tomorrow? -- jessamyn

I still have the letter Blockbuster sent me 10 years ago from a law firm demanding $3.99 in late fees or they would take me to court. Netflix might haven driven me back to the video store that comes bearing free popcorn.
