The way the video focused on the pumpkin at the very end made me expect a Save the Pumpkins logo or something. Like, we were supposed to be horrified all through that video and not going OH MY GOD THEY'RE SO FLUFFY, LOOK AT THEIR MEATY EARS

Kitties do too.

Bears are omnivores. There's a great story in a John McPhee piece about some bears in New Jersey who got drunk eating fermented apples in an orchard; the cops were called and the bears danced on the squad car.

I love bears.

I am glad my head is not big and orange or otherwise this might be a little scary.

As someone who's been labeled a bear, I agree with the sentiment of this post 100%. Pies, seeds, breads, spices, jack o'lanterns, whatever ... pumpkins are cool.

What is my ideal night in Alex?

I'm pretty sure you meant to put an addressive comma there, but if not, that's OK too.

Although it may not be OK with Alex.

Also, the name of my new band. Bears Love Pumpkins!

Look, if you're going to get petty about grammar details, at least get it right. The correct form of the sentence in that case would be:

What is my ideal night in, Lemmings?

Even quite small schoolchildren understand this instinctively.

Once Bears Discover Fire, they're bound to love Pumpkin Pie.

Hmmph. We have a new neighbor in the holler, a good-size black bear. I haven't seen him (or her - nobody's looked up its skirt yet) but I've heard him; late this winter there was a huge crashing sound in the woods and the neighbordogs took off after it. Dogs around here only go bonkers for bears and boar, and typically boar are a little stealthier. About two weeks later, one of my neighbors asked if I'd seen the bear yet. I still haven't, but am mindful in my predawn dogwalking.

Since they seem to enjoy them so much, I think I'll leave a few pumpkins around for our neighborbear. The fall shuffle has begun and it's not uncommon to spot bears in treetops, stripping the limbs of acorns and walnuts.

It's not all fun and games living with Yogi. Last fall a friend had the bumper of her car torn off by an inquisitive bear. The car was parked overnight and no, there was no food in it. Bears are occasionally baffling.

So are humans. Bumper probably had one of those Jesus fish stickers on it. Bear naturally goes for it, but the damn thing tastes like metal and plastic and paper. WTF?

Bears aren't the only zoo animals who love pumpkins.

They're so excited about their pumpkins! Are pumpkins normally food for bears?

orrnyereg, normal food for bears includes, but is not limited to: salmon, huckleberries, grubs, termites, honey (swarming with bees and larvae, or in large crockery of the type found in rabbit warrens), apples, squirrels, pumpkins, wrapped half-eaten hamburgers, full juice-boxes, spoiled leftovers, poke berries, raspberries, many wild mushrooms, and anything that can normally be found in pic-a-nic baskets.

So, yes.

Don't forget the wrapper from the Hershey bar that was crumpled under the front seat of the car, causing the bear to rip the doors off in order to reach the wrapper and eat it!

Mmmmm, candy bar wrappers....

TIL huckleberries are a real thing.

yeah, this is cute until you realize, as my husband just pointed out to me, they're enjoying them the way they'd enjoy, uh, tearing apart a human head.

We have a saying in Alaska. A fed bear is a dead bear. People, please do not leave food of any kind out for bears. They will become dependent, then they will be put down.

Not to be a downer on the thread, that video was great.
