Wide stones cannot be swapped

Hanano Puzzle is a puzzle game about flowers, stones and gravity. Its author announced it recently on the TIGsource forums. Caveat: there is only a Windows version.

As far as I can tell, the link is to a webpage that lets you download a zip file.

The ZIP file contains a .exe file.

Sorry, there's no way I'm running that.

Actually, I tend to trust these sorts of things, if only because trojans present themselves better.

True to the post, doesn't run in Wine, at least not on my first try.

It runs in wine just fine. If you're having problems, you might want to check that wine has been setup for DirectX on your system.

My thinking behind linking to the forum was that it let you read about the game before trying it, and also showed that people are running the program and no complaining about viruses or trojans. I am mindful that running random executables off the net is a bad idea in general. I was also at first hesitant to link to a Windows-only program, but in this case the elegance of the game won over. I love simple mechanics that give rise to tough puzzles, and I'm happy to see some other mefites do so too, and the post wasn't completely pointless.

There are apparently 50 puzzles in Hanano (I guess so because of 50 numbered data files) and I am now only about half-way through. (If you can find no other way to proceed with any level from 1 to 24, you can send me a MeFi Mail and ask for a hint. I suppose some puzzle wizards at TIGsource have already solved all of them by now, though.)

I guess the braver trailblazers (or those who know how to set up an easily-reset virtual machine) have shown me up. Glad to be proved wrong.
