Wait... there was a DOG in that clip?? (Have to watch it again. Maybe several times.) posted by Mike D at 9:24 AM on October 1, 2011 [2 favorites]
I heard, but can't confirm, that Petey is also better than me at hockey and football. Water Polo I could so totally take him though! posted by cjorgensen at 9:24 AM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]
My dog's talent remains eating a pound of butter and six slices of pizza in less than 20 seconds. posted by YukonQuirm at 9:28 AM on October 1, 2011 [9 favorites]
Molly is really excellent at eating cat shit, so, we've got that going on. posted by kbanas at 9:30 AM on October 1, 2011
Come on, there's no way I could imagine a dog doing--
Oh wait. It's a border collie. Nevermind.
Look at her. She noses that ball high into the air as if it were nothing. She chases her tail in off-cycles. That dog has crazy energy. posted by JHarris at 9:48 AM on October 1, 2011
Dribbling at 1:00 is most impressive. posted by Flunkie at 9:48 AM on October 1, 2011
This is exactly why I'd never own a border collie. They make children look low maintenance. It never stops, morning till night.

The video cut out before the end, so I missed the part where Petey brings in all these fans but instead of getting more treats his owner locks him out of his house and he has to go play in Europe. posted by Room 641-A at 10:04 AM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]
I thought Air Bud was already based on a real dog. One who uses an official sized basketball and everything. posted by dobbs at 10:05 AM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]
Being from the UK I am unfamiliar with the phrase 'air bud' and thought maybe some dude had come up with a new way of growing skunk....
This is akin to the soccer dogs that put on shows at at my kids' school carnivals. They are the most awesome, friendly dogs I've ever seen, and they are a huge hit. Wave after wave of kids kick soccer balls at them and they remain completely nonplussed all day. posted by Brocktoon at 10:30 AM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]
I once knew a family who had 6 kids and brought a new border collie home, the kids ended up being herded like sheep w/i the first hour. posted by PinkMoose at 10:54 AM on October 1, 2011 [2 favorites]
The phrase "complete inability" does not apply to border collies. The dog might have a hard time blocking shots, but you'll never get to that point - it'll take the ball on the dribble. posted by burden at 11:35 AM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]

Yeah, but I bet when it comes to snowboarding, he'd have his ass handed to him by a chimp.
Cool dog. I like that the video showed his misses as well as his hits, and that the girl playing with him didn't condescend and deliberately miss baskets when she made shots.
Of course, once Petey gets his paws on the editing software, there may be a very different version of this video going up. posted by maudlin at 1:31 PM on October 1, 2011 [1 favorite]
Nobody? Okay, I guess it's up to me. Here goes: he's really good at dribbling, that dog.

The owner mentioned in the video details that Petey was wearing booties to protect his feet from the hard playing surface.
