Life Starts Here is a collection of short stories about people either directly or indirectly involved in the video game industry. You may know the author, Duncan Fyfe, from his blog Hit Self-Destruct, which ran from 2007 to 2009.

If you like these, there are more on Hit Self-Destruct: Cadmium, Domestic City, Over and Under, and Murder Charge, for starters.

For some perspective on why Duncan's writing is noteworthy, Critical Distance published a series of responses from other game writers when the original blog ended.

I think he's pretty great, but don't expect any great frequency of updates (see the time gap between his latest story and the one previous, for example). Best policy is to just grab the rss and forget about it once you've gone over the old stuff.
