Deepend.com calls it quits.

Deepend.com calls it quits. U.K. web design firm Deepend has decided to fire all 90 employees and liquidate assests, due to the ripple effect of the 9/11 attack. That's their excuse anyway. If most or all of their clients were air or travel related I could believe their reasoning. What do you think?

...and it still wasn't making money and was still dependent on the whims of "investors?" Just forget making money off web sites. Forget it, forget it, forget it! Web sites are for hobbyists with day jobs. I'd type forget it a few more times but I have to go work on my Buttercup Powerpuff fanpage.

wrong, wrong, wrong jfuller. In the past 3 years I've made a respectable $1.00 from affiliate links!

I think I still have that check somewhere.

Hey, I was contacted out of the clear blue sky to have one of my random rants published in the Delorean Motor Company's quarterly magazine of all places. Got myself a check and everything out of it. And they say that there are no money-making opportunities out on the Internet. Ha!

"why not comment on it here?"

jfuller, I think suggesting that no one can make a successfull living off of website development is false. Maybe it's larger companies with a high amount of overhead that have the problem. I think independent people can/do make a very good living doing it.

Am I alone in never having heard of them, despite living in London and working in the Internet industry?

Yes. One of the most visible firms in the country. Also probably spells the end for a couple of glossy web design magazines which heavily featured their stuff.
