Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

This would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages.

Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Can we maybe have this discussion once something has happened and not "rar bad idea may become bad law"? Thanks -- jessamyn

This is a terrible idea and worthy of discussion, but the links aren't pointing to much in the way of real information. Deserves a better FPP.

In other words, the KKK lectures the rest of us on civil rights.

And none of them will have jobs. It's just another ploy to make Obama look bad.

Something tells me that besides the things mentioned in this post, that the law would have a bunch of unintended legal consequences.

People should mass call their local police precinct, reporting their used tampons to the homicide squad.

I don't see what advantage they hope to gain.

It's a well-worn truism of American politics that fertilized eggs don't vote on Election Day.

I'm 100% ok with this, as long as each resulting child is guaranteed a loving home and equal opportunities to safety, comfort and education as any other child.

Unless this is a dark horse to Leave Every Child Behind, in which case I guess we have your highly mobile and disenfranchised workforce ready to pick those crops!

Good. They force their way into a woman's uterus, stealing food and transport while there.

Grown ass persons have been executed for less.

No.

Failure to report a homicide. Improper burial of a body. Criminally negligent homicide (e.g. a smoker suffers a miscarriage).
