I would pay money to ride up on the top of that elevator -- that looked sweet. But I'd pay a lot more money to be able to ride it back down rather than jump off with a parachute. posted by Forktine at 7:11 AM on October 16, 2011

I wonder if there will be anything about base jumping in the DSM-V. It's really its own kind of crazy awesome. posted by jwhite1979 at 7:20 AM on October 16, 2011

You've never been to Benidorm.
That made me feel a little ill. Like the last time I went to Benidorm. posted by afx237vi at 7:21 AM on October 16, 2011 [1 favorite]
Yeah, it's pretty fun to get radical like this. If you want the ultimate thrill, you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price. Me? I order my steaks rare even though the menu clearly states that undercooked meats can cause food-borne illnesses. Pretty much the same thing. posted by Bookhouse at 7:22 AM on October 16, 2011 [5 favorites]

I was wondering if they would have been squished when the elevator reached the top floor, so that they had no option to back out at the last minute. posted by orme at 8:10 AM on October 16, 2011
I had this video started in another tab. I didn't realize they had gotten on top of an elevator and was very confused when I thought they were going to jump from about 20 feet. posted by MaritaCov at 8:15 AM on October 16, 2011 [1 favorite]

That occurred to me on the way up, but I figured they'd thought of that and their co-consiprator (you see them with the video camera inside the lift) would have been smart enough to press the button 2 floors from the top or whatever to prevent that problem. posted by Brockles at 8:31 AM on October 16, 2011

How high is this? I've bungy-jumped from 50m a few times, but I swear I couldn't see this as they were ascending. posted by the cydonian at 9:43 AM on October 16, 2011
Lightweights! I would have cut the cord and grapple-hooked onto the roof of a passing car, pausing only to causing mayhem and destruction in the hopes of fermenting anti-government rioting. posted by fullerine at 12:39 PM on October 16, 2011 [2 favorites]
I expected the cameraman to be knocke over by a car becuase he was standing in the road. posted by lalochezia at 12:43 PM on October 16, 2011
It's funny where people draw the line at crazy. BASE jumping? Cool! Riding up on the outside of the elevator?
Hey, I've stayed at this hotel! It's a nice place and the video of the last guy who jumped was cool. Knowing how Benidorm is, I can imagine it's only a matter of time before a few drunken guys from a stag party think this might be a good idea at 2am. posted by triggerfinger at 2:36 PM on October 16, 2011
