Hurry up, get more done, and die It is no longer possible to sit quietly on the park bench without checking your Facebook feed, chatting with Siri and waving to the CCTV cameras. It is no longer possible to be astonished at the wonder of your footfalls along the forest path and not feel the urge to check email, find the nearest Starbucks, Hipstamatic the hell out of that beautiful fallen tree. You cannot just sit in your car along a quiet country road without the GPS beeping that you took a wrong turn as OnStar politely blows up your car.
This post was deleted for the following reason: This is kind of a short puffy op-ed full of rhetorical silliness that's mostly grounds for people saying "no, that is rhetorical silliness". Seems pretty thin for a post. -- cortex
I know the data fog around us is getting bad, but there are tools out there to help you find the best bits so you can ignore the rest. Also, I make a point of putting my iPhone away each day at least for a while. It's not hard to spend an hour or two offline in a day, that's what lock screens and pockets are for.

If it's no longer possible to enjoy walking in the woods without feeling the urge to check email, how did I do it yesterday? I'm not sure how astonished I was at the wonder of my footfalls, though.

You can still do those things, if you really want. They are just boring as hell, i mean seriously? "astonished at the wonder of your footfalls"?? Are people really astonished by that, were they ever? "I'm walking!!" i guess if you were unable to walk and then could again, but if not, really?
