I'm mildly disappointed that 'Teenage Cleopatra Hanky Panky Bomb' was merely a result of hasty punctuation.

I was in band that opened up for the 5678s at what I believe was their first North American show (the Silver Dollar in Toronto). This was actually before Kill Bill. The vibe was great, everybody was so thrilled to actually see this band live. It was one of the few times I watched a headliner from the side of the stage; they were just riveting.

The main thing I remember was their matching black leather outfits - much cooler than what they wore in the movie IMHO but it probably wouldn't have shown up as well on camera.

I saw them shortly after Kill Bill, which meant that a few douchebags in the audience kept on asking for "Woo Hoo" even after they had played it.

Also, this was before the smoking ban, and damn do fans of Japanese punk/surf/rockabilly bands chainsmoke.

(However, they were amazing, and they played "Bomb the Twist" and all the fans that were there for everything but "Woo Hoo" were delighted.)

And now I'm delighted, because they're on MetaFilter! And other people will find out how awesome they are!

I found the CD right after Kill Bill came out and it's been in my heavy rotation ever since.

C'mon baby! Bomba da twist!

I thought for sure something was up when I saw "Blue," "House," and "Leaves" in the same sentence. Guess not.

Not sure how this is going to affect my relationship with 少年ナイフ. I hope we can all get along because this is all kinds of awesome.

If I recall correctly, Tarantino was in a clothing store in Japan just before he was to get onto a flight back to the U.S. He heard the 5.6.7.8.s playing on the store's system, and he begged a befuddled salesgirl to give him the CD.

I dig the 5.6.7.8.s, but I feel a little guilty for not giving them more ear time. I shall seek to rectify that.

少年ナイフ? Bah! ザ・ピーナッツ are the original only only jfpunk band.

They also taught Zooey Deschanel the chicken dance. Not many people know that.

This kind of covers all the bases of everything I love. What a good way to end a week/start a weekend.
