Salman Rushdie is Not Afraid

"British Airways refused to accept Rushdie as a passenger, fearing the plane would be blown up in midair. A Pakistani film portrayed the writer as a pro-Israel alcoholic who murders Muslims. British censorship prevented the film's screening, but Rushdie, always a fierce advocate of freedom of expression, demanded that it be shown." Haaretz interviews Salman Rushdie and reflects on the controversy caused by the publication of The Satanic Verses. Previously on MeFi: Rushdie (2, 3), Haaretz.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is very confusing, leading with an out-of-date news blurb that isn't labeled as such, then a link to an old film before getting to the point of the post. Try again tomorrow? -- taz

Salman Rushdie is an anagram of "Dare shun Islam?"

That first link is not only misleading...but it demonstrates why you should not link to 13 year old news on metafilter.

It was pretty clear to me - before reading your comment - that the link was referring to older news, during the height of media attention towards the fatwa on Rushdie's life. I didn't detect any attempt to mislead in what is quite obviously an FPP that is meant to be reflective.
