Huh, well, I manged to "escape" by focus floating myself underneath the elevator platform until it pushed me off the bottom of the screen without spiking me, and my guy hasn't come back ... but after that I couldn't get back on the screen or move exactly (though I could still "focus" from somewhere off the bottom of the screen) and I suspect I haven't "won".

Yeah, there are some seriously hard levels in there, but a great game. Finally beat it, but definitely a good bit of entertainment.

yeah I definitely seem to now be in a position where blowing up all the yellow things is optional and I can just focus my way through everything.

almost embarrassed to ask: how does one control the directional arrow when in focus mode?

wensink - use the directional arrows on your keyboard as you're holding down A.

I got frustrated after the first few screens. It does seem like the controls would be better with WASD to move, shift to focus, and mouse to aim the focus warp.

Also, it took me embarrassingly long to realize that the focus bubble only slows time down within its borders, not across the whole map.
