BTW, Cyriac recently did a couple things that (shockingly!) did NOT go viral...

A fractal but relatively gentle music video

"Pointless Fun" for a Trident Gum promotion on Facebook (Cyriac, Facebook and chewing gum seems like a combination only he can imagine)

I'm overwhelmingly in love with cyriac's work. It's all nightmarefodder, but it all has an overlay of humor which my nightmares never have. He's imaginative and amusing and I love that he keeps making stuff.

I just did a review of his earlier work just a few days ago, but this is new. Thanks for posting!

If somebody can make a GIF out of that cat-based AT-AT walker thing walking, save it as like_a_boss.gif and link it from this thread, I will regard said someone with awe and gratitude.

This explains why demand for hallucinogens has plummeted. Why waste money on LSD when you can just watch this for free and get the same effect?

Also, in light of what's happening in London (but preceding it by months), here is St. Paul's Cathedral On Holiday.

It's his - his music, his visual style, his animation, instantly recognizable. I'll say it here. He's an artist, and a brilliant one, and it kind of saddens me he'll never cash in on it like some less talented artists, simply because he doesn't waste his time creating artifacts, but devotes it to crafting something at once more ephemeral and more tangible than pastels on paper or oils on canvas.

He's clearly a slave to his muse, he does what he does because it's what he does - he'll never set up a gallery, or sell limited edition prints or casts of his work. Yet he represents a time and place and mindset that's real and relevant. This is art, fine art. It will be studied and enjoyed in the centuries to come. The difference is, in the internet age, we can let him know just how much of a genius he is while he's still alive.

It's about damn time artifact hoarders stopped determining what represents us as art. Cyriak's stuff is a step in that direction. It's beyond outsider art... it's extradimensional art.

I love this guys work, but due to my own shortcomings, I suppose, I found this less entertaining than the same thing in cow form. I think I love my kittehs a bit too much

he'll never cash in on it

cyriak has done more than a little bit of commerical work, a lot of it available for viewing on YouTube.

I can't even find the makeup commercial he made which I saw just a couple of days ago, but I have found these:

adult swim bumps

polydor presents 2010/2011

2009 commercial showreel

Coke Zero commercial

Plus music videos:

Eskmo "We Got More"

I suspect he's cashing in quite well with his art.

Also, whatever you do, don't watch this. You may never sleep again.

I love how he's created such a signature aesthetic out of seemingly un-connected themes and tropes, it's Iowa Acid Folk.
posted by The Whelk at 9:14 PM on November 5, 2011

And here all this time I thought that Iowa Acid Folk was epitomized by Leslie Hall.
posted by hippybear at 9:18 PM on November 5, 2011

Anyway, cyriak is from the UK. He can't possibly be Iowa anything.

This was my first introduction to Cyriak and still one of my favorite things of his. It was passed around right before the Large Hadron Collider spun up for the first time and everyone was afraid it was going to tear a hole in the universe somehow.

Going to be a weird day...

Damn you. Of course I watched it, and you were right.

probably better off you didn't. I watched this and the one called "baaa" and then the home ec one right before bed and woke up repeatedly from disturbing dreams through the night. The worst one involved a bleeding contract killer who was after us with a knife so sharp and thin you didn't know you were stabbed until you moved and the wound opened and poured stuff out. So much blood. So tired.

Huh. Seems to me that Cyriak is suffering from "difficult second album syndrome" - or the bonkers animation equivalent.

By the way, I was into Cyriak before it was fashionable.
